Amanda Marcotte says she lowballed the cost of birth control

Just yesterday, our favorite feminist Amanda Marcotte tweeted that, without insurance, birth control between now and menopause would cost her $22,000. That certainly seems like a lot of money, but today, in response to critics, Marcotte is saying she actually lowballed that figure.

One hundred dollars a month without insurance is low? As we keep pointing out, most major pharmacies in the U.S. charge around $9 per month for birth control pills, which comes to $108 a year. Plus, low-income people can obtain subsidized (often free) birth control through thousands of Public Health Centers across the U.S.
