Louis Zamperini competed as a runner in the 1936 Olympics, served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a bombardier. He survived 47 days on an open raft in the Pacific before being taken prisoner by the Japanese. Zamperini’s life is the basis for the bestselling book “Unbroken” by Lauren Hillenbrand on which Angelina Jolie is basing a film.

Zamperini passed away yesterday at the age of 97. He touched a lot of lives and many of them remembered him on Twitter.
