FBI, DHS investigating Kent State prof for alleged ISIS ties
WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio is reporting tonight that Julio Pino, an associate professor of history at Kent State University, has been under investigation by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security for alleged ties to ISIS.
A spokesman for Kent State said the university is fully cooperating with the FBI, which has assured the school there is no danger to the campus.
Pino, a convert to Islam, includes on his CV the articles“Born in The Fist of the Revolution: A Cuban Professor’s Journey to Allah” and “How a Cuban Embraced Islam.”
Twitchy’s sister site Townhall.com attempted to contact Pino in 2007 about his “Global War” blog, which reportedly was self-described as “a jihadist news service” that provides“battle dispatches, training manuals, and jihad videos to our brothers worldwide.”Pamela Gellar, who recently sponsored the “Draw Muhammad” contest in Garland, Texas that attracted two unsuccessful assailants, published an extensive write-up of Pino in 2012, recounting an incident when he allegedly shouted “Death to Israel!”at a lecture by a former Israeli diplomat.
In a 2013 interview with the American Historical Association, Pino included among his interests “My family, here and in Cuba, Islam, freedom for the Palestinians, and 1970s classic rock.”
