They Just Needed A Chance, And These City Workers Helped Them In The Best Way
Every year, thousands of college graduates feel the harsh reality that comes along with sending out hundreds of job applications and getting one or two interviews in return. If professional life is that rough on people who are fresh out of college (and likely being supported by Mom and Dad in the interim), imagine how hard it would be to find a job after you’ve lost everything. While many jump to negative conclusions about homeless people, the fact of the matter is that any one of us could have the carpet ripped out from under our feet tomorrow.
That’s what makes this new initiative in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so great. Instead of punishing panhandlers, city officials are now offering them the chance to do honest work for a bit of money. The end result is proof that extending a helping hand is the kindest, most productive solution to what’s always been a devastating problem.

When people experience homelessness, they become part of a vicious cycle. The fact that those who run this program want to help members of their community break that cycle speaks volumes about where their priorities lie.
